The Ghana Book Publishers Association in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA)    has slated   August 30th to September, 2nd 2018 to host the 16th edition of the Ghana International Book Fair 2018.

The event which is under the theme “Revitalizing the Book Chain for National and International Cooperation” seeks  to create a market-place for stakeholders in the book industry for national development, to create the necessary conditions for intra-African trade in books and to showcase Ghana’s strength in cultural products.

The 4-Day Book Fair which opens from 9am to 7pm each day at the Accra International Conference Centre is expected to create a common platform for all book industry practitioners as well as educational institutions and other related sectors of the economy to network and trade.

This year’s book fair will involve workshops, competitions and other educative events, which will give the general public the opportunity to have access to a variety of good books and buy at highly discounted prices.

It will also create a conducive climate through seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops and other competitions where the intellectual potential in the book industry can find firm roots to grow.

The Ghana International Book Fair (GIBF) was instituted in the mid-90s to revive the book industry in Ghana which was at its lowest ebb due to serious economic recession of the late 70s and 80s. The Trade Fair Authority was therefore charged with the responsibility of initiating an international book fair in Ghana.

The first ever book fair was held in 1996. Subsequent fairs were held every two years in 1998 until 2008, when the event became an annual event. The fair has been held every year since 2008 with GBPA as the lead organizer.
