CK Mann to be buried, July 14


Final funeral rites and burial service for late highlife singer, Charles Kofi Amankwaa Mann (C. K. Mann) who died while on admission at the GPHA Hospital on March 20 have been scheduled for the Takoradi Sports Club and the Takoradi cemetery, July 14.

A wake keeping is set for the Jubilee Park on Friday, July 13, whilst a thanksgiving service will hold at the Christ The King Catholic Church, Efiekuma, Sunday July 15.

The music fraternity —which saw Mann function as a linchpin until his death, is expected to represent massively, as well as representatives from government, corporate Ghana, among other spheres of society.

Acclaimed for such songs as ‘Adwoa Yankey,’ ‘Mber Papa,’ ‘Medo Wo,’ ‘Araba Lucy,’ ‘Wode a Ne Me,’ among others, the singer was reportedly battling ill health conditions with intensified last December. He was 83.

Active in music for over four decades, his big break came in came in 1969 with the release of “Edina Benya“. A former seaman, he was a member of a number of influential bands as the Kakaiku Band, Ocean Strings, and The Carousel 7.

For his immeasurable contribution to music and Ghanaian heritage, he was, in 2013, awarded Grand Medal of Ghana by then-president John Agyekum Kufour. His most recent album, “‘Wope Nyeho’ was released in 2013.
